Past Events for 2009
FISHING!!
Our May 23rd 6th annual amputee fishing day at Lake Bastrop was a big success. We had about 50 total people enjoying a morning of fishing and then a fantastic picnic! We want to especially thank the Austin Christian Bass Club and Kris and McClendon for volunteering their beautiful bass boats, and especially their time and expertise. You could not find a better, kinder group of people. We all had such a good time and the food was great. Already looking forward to next year.
Our Support Group August trip to Bob Bullock Museum and then to IMAX theatre was a great day. Everyone enjoyed the museum and the movie.
PEER VISITING
The Round Rock Amputee Support Group Peer Visitation Program is strong. We have 9 ACA certified Peer visitors and many more qualified visitors from personal experience. We can also provide a pre-amputation visit if you find yourself in this situation. Knowledge can often help ease anxiety and possibly lessen some of the stress of facing an amputation.
Please let us know if we can assist you and your family or if you know someone who needs a peer visit and we will be there for you.
INSURANCE PARITY FOR PROSTHETIC COVERAGE: Great News!!
The Round Rock Amputee Support Group has been involved in the statewide grass-roots movement to improve insurance coverage for prosthetics in Texas for the last 4 years.
HB806 HAS BEEN SIGNED INTO LAW BY GOVERNOR PERRY!! This is a great day for Texas Amputees. If you have insurance, you will no longer be surprised by caps and lifetime caps when you go to get your first prosthesis. You will be provided the same percentages that you have in your policy overall. It goes into affect in September.
Also, there is a Federal Mandate being presented at the present .
Many people have worked far this over the last 4 years.
Congratulations and thank you to all of you that have participated, whether it was physically being there, or all the emails and calls you have made on behalf of amputees across our great State. This is very exciting.
Many thanks to all of you who have spent their time and dedication working toward Prosthetic Parity in Texas.
Our Round Rock Amputee Support Group was represented well.
"You are all incredible! You should be so proud. I cannot thank you enough for all of your hard work.
Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." You are the true embodiment of that quote.
You have made a difference in the lives of thousands of amputees and their families. Great work!"
